Framework for assessing exhibitions from a visitor-centred perspective
The "Framework for Evaluating Exhibitions from a Visitor-Centered Perspective" has been developed by Beverly Serrell. The research question that guided the work was: if different museum professionals use the same standards to review the same group of exhibits, will the reviewers agree or disagree on the degree of excellence for each exhibit? And if they don't, why? It is based on the book Judging Exhibitions: A Framework for Assessing Excellence.
This proposal is an alternative way to other methods by which exhibitions open to the public can be assessed, such as summative assessments. Each is carried out by certain agents, answers specific questions and purposes, generates a product and is aimed at a particular audience.
This Working Framework is intended for museum professionals, its main purpose is to support professional development with learning that derives from the process of participation, and the recipients are the same museum professionals who apply the Framework.
